FAQs

1) Which books does Jenny recommend most often?

I have made a list of my favourite books on Bookshop.org which is broken down into health, non-fiction and fiction. Read on!

2) Can I work with Jenny one-on-one?

I have now retired from clinical practice and am focussing entirely on writing and teaching. I am not taking on new patients but am happy to recommend colleagues; you can find a list of organisations whose members practise in a similar way, on page 333 of my first book. Please also see the British Society for Ecological Medicine.

Remember, I cannot give medical advice over the internet. Health is often a complicated puzzle that requires time and expertise. Click here to see my list of accredited practitioners.

3) When/ where can I see Jenny speak?

The best place to keep up to date with my speaking engagements is by following me on Instagram, where I am most active. All events are shared on my profile there.

4) Where can I learn more about ecological medicine?

The first step would be to read my two books;

Staying Alive in Toxic Times: A Seasonal Guide to Lifelong Health’.

Getting Healthy in Toxic Times: An Ecological Doctor's Prescription for Healing your Body and the Planet'.

Both books are available as audiobooks, narrated by me, and as ebooks.

Also, head to my ‘Resources’ page to see recommended films, books, websites etc.

5) How should I filter my water?

To ensure you have water that is free from contaminants you will want to get a proper plumbed-in water filter. Certainly for the kitchen, but ideally a whole-house system if you have the resources so that you can also filter your showering/ bathing water. You need to get a filter that takes out the halogens (that’s chlorine and fluoride) and many other substances.

Fluoride is added to your tap water if you live in the West Midlands, parts of north-east England or in the Republic of Ireland. And chlorine is added to tap water everywhere in the UK. It displaces the iodine that we all need to be healthy. So does fluoride. You can check what is in your water by searching online.

You can get a plumbed-in water filter from any reputable water filter company. In my first book, I did venture to recommend certain brands (on page 275) but technologies change.

A good company should be able to talk you through exactly what the filter does and does not remove. Plumbed-in filters are better than those that sit on the worktop, because they enable you easily to use safe, filtered water for cooking and making hot drinks as well as for drinking directly. You don’t want your filtered water sitting in a plastic jug in a warm kitchen; you’d be drinking the plasticiser chemicals. However, for students and those in rented accommodation, a counter-top filter is much better than nothing.

More about water filters and why you need them in chapter 3 of my second book, ‘Getting Healthy in Toxic Times.

6) Will Jenny speak at my event?

Please see below!

Would you like me to speak at your event?

Dr Jenny Goodman has retired from clinical practice and her main focus is working on her forthcoming books. She is now speaking at conferences, festivals and other events on an occasional basis only. Fees vary depending on the status of your organisation; fees are higher for a for-profit company, and lower for a charity. Literary festivals have separate arrangements. In addition to the fee, all travel expenses, accommodation and meals need to be covered.

Please be kind enough to complete this contact form and your enquiry will be dealt with as promptly as possible. Thank you!
